There is much information about what to do if you have been injured in an accident, but there is not a lot of information on what not to do and the things that can hurt your case. I am going to give you a few of them here.
First; if you have had an accident and you have filed suit against the party that caused the accident, don’t get on the internet and talk about it on the social media sites. Also do not post any pictures of yourself doing any kind of activities. The insurance companies representatives, attorneys and adjusters spend time looking over the internet on sites like Facebook to find information they can use against you later and either get the case dropped all together or give you reduced damages. Also, don’t discuss your accident or injuries with friends and family as they will likely be interviewed or questioned themselves about your case.
Second; Don’t withhold information of any kind especially any thing that relates to past injuries you have had. Be up front and disclose this information to your attorney because they will best know how to handle that situation.
Thirdly; don’t sign any forms or give any recorded statements until your attorney has looked at them with you or is present and says that is ok. Accident claims are complicated and you may be offered a settlement that is much less than what you are entitled to. There are many factors to consider when coming up with a settlement amount and you need a qualified attorney to help you in determining what that amount is.
These are just 3 of things that you need to watch out for if you have been injured and think that you may have a claim or you have started a law suit. Always consult your attorney before signing any forms or talking to the insurance company and their representatives.
